Karnataka Ministers Welcome India-Pakistan Ceasefire, Stress Vigilance Against Terrorism

Karnataka Home Minister welcomes ceasefire between Indian and Pakistan.webp

Bengaluru, May 10 — Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Saturday welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, describing it as a positive development for both nations. He attributed the de-escalation of tensions to mediation efforts led by US President Donald Trump.

“Both countries have agreed to a ceasefire. I personally welcome it. In fact, our Chief Minister (Siddaramaiah) has also officially welcomed the move. It is good for both the countries,” Parameshwara told reporters in Bengaluru.

Despite expressing optimism over the ceasefire, the Home Minister cautioned that India will continue its fight against terrorism. He reiterated the central government's firm stance that any act of terror will be treated as an act of war.

Meanwhile, Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge echoed similar sentiments. In a statement, he affirmed the Congress party’s support for decisions taken by the Union government in the national interest. However, he underscored that the ceasefire should not lead to complacency.

“Although a ceasefire has been announced, terrorism knows no ceasefire. We must remain vigilant and intensify efforts to eliminate terrorism both within and beyond our borders,” Kharge said.

The ceasefire announcement followed a formal agreement between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, and has been widely acknowledged by leaders across the country as a step towards peace, even as calls to strengthen counter-terrorism measures grow louder.
