Varanasi, February 27: The sacred city of Varanasi witnessed an overwhelming influx of devotees on the occasion of Mahashivaratri, as over 11.69 lakh worshippers thronged the Kashi Vishwanath Temple to offer prayers, according to an official statement released on Thursday.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the local administration implemented meticulous crowd management measures, ensuring seamless security and essential facilities for the devotees. The Kashi Vishwanath temple administration was crucial in organizing the arrangements, facilitating a smooth and uninterrupted 'darshan' experience.
Devotees began assembling at the temple premises from the early hours of Wednesday, eager to perform the sacred rituals. The statement also highlighted that, on average, five to six lakh people visited the temple in February, reflecting its growing spiritual significance.
During the celebrations, devotees participated in the traditional 'jalabhishek', offering holy water to Lord Shiva. In a grand tribute, helicopters showered flower petals over the Kashi Vishwanath temple and the ghats of the Ganga, adding to the festivity and reverence of the occasion.
