Srinagar, March 3: Large parts of Kashmir experienced widespread rains on Monday, with higher elevations receiving fresh snowfall, significantly bringing down temperatures across the region, officials reported.
The latest rainfall considerably reduced Kashmir's rain deficit from over 80 percent to around 40 percent, officials added. The precipitation began during the early hours of Monday, offering relief after a prolonged dry spell.
In south Kashmir, mountainous areas including the popular tourist destination Pahalgam experienced snowfall, transforming the landscape into a wintry spectacle. Additionally, several regions in Baramulla district reported fresh snowfall.
The neighbouring Ladakh region also recorded fresh snowfall, particularly in Kargil district, further intensifying the cold conditions in the Union Territory.
According to the Meteorological Department, weather conditions in the Kashmir Valley are anticipated to improve starting Tuesday. The region is likely to witness dry weather conditions continuing till March 9.
This fresh spell of precipitation has brought relief from the extended dry period, boosting hopes for improved water resources ahead of the spring season.
