
Kolkata, February 15 A coach of an empty passenger train caught fire at the Katwa railway station in the Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal early Sunday morning, an official of Eastern Railway said.
There have been no reports of injuries.
Fire officials said the fire was reported around 4:30 am in a compartment of the Katwa-Azimganj passenger train that was standing on platform number two, and was brought under control by fire tenders after 30 minutes.
Passengers at the station noticed flames engulfing the coach, causing a brief commotion on the platform.
Railway staff promptly detached the affected coach to prevent the fire from spreading, the official of Eastern Railway said.
He said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
