Rudraprayag, February 26: The revered Kedarnath temple is set to reopen for devotees at 7 AM on May 2, as announced by Vijay Prasad Thapliyal, Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee on Wednesday.

This declaration has finalized the opening dates for all four sacred shrines in the Garhwal Himalayas. Badrinath Dham will welcome devotees from May 4, while Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams will open their doors on April 30, coinciding with Akshaya Tritiya—an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar. These four temples form the Chota Char Dham, a Hindu pilgrimage circuit.

Religious scholars and Vedpathis determined the auspicious date and time for the Kedarnath temple's opening on the occasion of Mahashivratri at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, the winter abode of Baba Kedar.

The ceremony at Omkareshwar temple was attended by Rawal Bhimshankar Ling, the chief priest of Kedarnath temple, along with Kedarnath MLA Asha Nautiyal, temple committee officials, religious leaders, and a large gathering of devotees. The temple was beautifully adorned with flowers to mark the occasion.

With the dates set, devotees from across the country are expected to embark on the sacred Chota Char Dham Yatra, which holds immense spiritual significance in Hinduism.
