New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal during election rallies in Delhi, branding him a “lying machine” and a “fake Hindu.” He also blamed Kejriwal for the unclean Yamuna, attributing its pollution to the AAP leader’s “sins.”

Addressing BJP supporters in Babarpur and Adarsh Nagar ahead of the February 5 assembly elections, Sarma accused Kejriwal of prioritizing stipends for Muslim clerics (maulvis) over Hindu priests and only announcing financial support for priests and Sikh granthis as an election gimmick.

“Kejriwal has been paying a stipend to maulanas for ten years, but he remembered Hindu priests only when elections came. Hindus have to come first,” Sarma asserted.

"Kejriwal a Lying Machine," Says Sarma

Sarma did not hold back, claiming Kejriwal had built a reputation for dishonesty. “He does not just speak lies; he has become a lying machine. He cannot speak the truth,” the Assam chief minister said.
Questioning Kejriwal’s delay in extending financial benefits to Hindu priests, Sarma asked, “For ten years, you paid maulanas. Now, when it's time to leave, you suddenly remember priests. Our country is of Hindus—priests will not come second.”
He urged voters to reject Kejriwal, stating, “Iss nakli Hindu ko pehle bahar kar dena Delhi se” ("First, oust this fake Hindu from Delhi").

Kejriwal’s "Sins" Behind Yamuna’s Pollution, Claims Sarma

Bringing up Kejriwal’s past promise to clean the Yamuna before contesting elections, Sarma questioned its current state. “Has the Yamuna been cleaned? Kejriwal needs to be cleaned instead,” he remarked.
He added sarcastically, “After the elections, I will make him take a dip in the Ganga and then the Brahmaputra. The Yamuna remains dirty because of Kejriwal’s ‘paap’ (sins).”

Response to "Yamuna Poisoning" Allegation

Sarma also responded to Kejriwal’s claim that the BJP-led Haryana government poisoned Delhi’s water supply through the Yamuna. “No Hindu would poison another’s water. How can a BJP government in Haryana poison water that even its own leaders in Delhi drink?” he countered.

On January 27, Kejriwal had accused the BJP of attempting to mix poison in Delhi’s drinking water to create chaos and blame AAP. The Election Commission has since issued two notices to Kejriwal regarding this claim.

"AAP-da (Disaster) Government Has Wasted 10 Years"

In his address at Adarsh Nagar, Sarma criticized AAP’s governance, stating, “For ten years, they ignored priests and only now, during elections, promise stipends. Kejriwal has always supported maulanas, but I have been saying in Assam that Muslims want their children to become engineers and doctors, not just clerics.”
Accusing Kejriwal of running a "factory of lies," Sarma mocked the AAP leader’s past jail time, stating, “He acts like he went to jail during the freedom struggle. He should remember he was jailed for the liquor policy case.”

Sarma also took a jab at Kejriwal’s past promises. “When he was with Anna Hazare, he said he would never contest elections, never use government cars, never stay in government accommodation. Today, his ‘Sheesh Mahal’ (lavish residence) is in front of everyone.”

Delhi Assembly Elections on February 5

Delhi voters will cast their ballots for the 70-member assembly on February 5, with the results to be declared on February 8. With tensions rising and verbal attacks intensifying, the political battleground remains heated in the final days before the election.
