Mumbai, Feb 4 (PTI) – Kenya is expecting a significant 20% rise in Indian tourist arrivals this year, driven by a surge in inquiries and strengthened promotional efforts in India, according to a senior official.
In 2024, Kenya welcomed 106,863 visitors from India, marking a 12.4% increase from the previous year, which saw 95,038 tourists from the country, as per data from the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB).
Fred Kaigwa, Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO), shared that the travel trade's immediate feedback had been positive, with a notable increase in interest for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism as well as leisure travel. Kaigwa highlighted that these encouraging trends, along with the ongoing promotional campaigns in India, have contributed to the forecasted 20% rise in Indian arrivals this year.
To further enhance its visibility, Kenya has held several successful roadshows in major cities including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Kolkata, aimed at strengthening its presence as a sought-after destination. Kaigwa noted that these efforts are likely to convert into increased sales and bookings.
June Chepkemei, CEO of KTB, emphasized India’s importance as an emerging market for Kenya. She reiterated that the country is committed to collaborating with the private sector to maintain Kenya’s position as a preferred destination for both Indian tourists and investors in the tourism sector.
With these concerted efforts, Kenya is poised to attract more visitors from India in 2025, reinforcing its appeal as a vibrant and diverse travel destination.
