Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 3 (PTI): The Union Budget for the financial year 2025–26 has earmarked ₹3,042 crore for the development of railway infrastructure in Kerala, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Monday.
This allocation marks a significant eightfold increase compared to the average annual outlay of ₹372 crore during the 2009-2014 UPA rule, the minister stated.
Major Railway Projects Underway
According to an official press release, eight railway projects covering a total of 419 km are currently in progress in Kerala, with an estimated investment of ₹12,350 crore.Additionally, the government is focusing on modernizing 35 railway stations under the Amrit Station Scheme, with a budget of ₹2,560 crore.
Enhanced Safety Measures
To bolster railway safety, the Kavach system—an advanced collision avoidance technology—is being implemented over 531 Route Kilometers (RKM) in the state, with 107 RKM already under execution, the release added.This substantial budgetary push is expected to transform Kerala’s railway infrastructure, improving connectivity, safety, and passenger experience.
