Kochi, Feb 28: With their Indian Super League (ISL) playoff hopes hanging by a thread, Kerala Blasters are set to take on Jamshedpur FC in a crucial encounter on Saturday. The Blasters need to win all three of their remaining matches to stay in contention for a playoff berth, while also relying on other results to go in their favor.
Currently placed in a precarious position, Kerala Blasters have accumulated 24 points from 21 games, with seven wins and three draws. However, their recent form has been concerning, particularly in front of goal, as they have failed to score in their last two home matches. Despite this, they hold an unbeaten home record against Jamshedpur FC, which could provide them with a much-needed psychological edge.
On the other hand, Jamshedpur FC have already secured their place in the playoffs and will be aiming for a league double after defeating Kerala Blasters 1-0 in their previous encounter this season. Historically, the two sides have faced off 17 times, with Kerala Blasters securing five victories, while Jamshedpur FC have won four matches. Eight of their meetings have ended in a draw.
Kerala Blasters’ interim head coach TG Purushothaman emphasized the team's singular focus on securing a victory. "Our only goal right now is to win this match. Playing at home gives us an added motivation, and we must put in the hard work to get a positive result," he stated.
Meanwhile, Jamshedpur FC head coach Khalid Jamil assured that his side would not take the match lightly despite having already confirmed their playoff spot. "We have prepared for this match as we have for all our previous games. It’s important to approach the game with full seriousness," he affirmed.
With high stakes for the hosts and pride on the line for the visitors, Saturday’s fixture at Kochi promises to be an intense battle as Kerala Blasters fight to keep their playoff dreams alive.
