Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reviews progress, sets timeline for township construction
Thiruvananthapuram, May 12 – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the timely completion of rehabilitation initiatives for the survivors of last year’s devastating landslides in Wayanad.In a high-level review meeting, Vijayan directed officials to promptly disburse the monthly rent allowance for the affected families currently residing in temporary accommodations. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of a planned township for residents of the Mundakkai and Chooralmala hamlets, which were severely impacted by the landslide.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), a specific timeline has now been established to secure administrative, technical, and financial approvals required for the construction of the rehabilitation township.
The review also addressed critical logistical concerns. Vijayan instructed officials to expedite the procedures for sanctioned tree-cutting, power distribution reorganisation, and other necessary infrastructural adjustments. Additionally, he emphasized the need to accelerate assistance from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, deploy key personnel, and clear debris from water bodies to restore proper water flow in the region.
Cabinet ministers K Rajan and K N Balagopal, Chief Secretary A Jayathilak, and other senior officials were present at the meeting, underlining the administration’s focus on ensuring a swift and efficient rehabilitation process.
