Thiruvananthapuram, March 3 – The Kerala government has agreed to address the growing concern over violent incidents in the state, following the tragic death of a school student during a clash in Kozhikode district. The issue will be raised in the upcoming Assembly session, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan confirmed on Monday.
In response to a notice for urgent discussion on the matter, CM Vijayan described the increasing incidents of violence as a "serious social issue." He acknowledged that various factors such as drugs, video games, films, and web series might be contributing to the rise in violent behavior among youths.
"Several factors, as highlighted in the notice, are leading to these incidents. We will discuss the matter in detail," Vijayan said, emphasizing the need for a broader public discourse on the issue.
The discussion was prompted by a notice filed by senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala under Rule 50, seeking to suspend the Assembly's regular business for an emergency debate on the alarming situation. The motion will now be discussed, as confirmed by Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer.
This move marks a significant step in addressing the increasing violence that has raised concerns across the state. The Kerala government is expected to explore possible solutions during the forthcoming debate.
