Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 4 (PTI) – The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has instructed authorities to expedite the distribution of VHF (Very High Frequency) marine radios to deserving coastal residents, particularly seafaring fishermen, ensuring effective communication between boats and other watercraft.
The commission's directive was issued after a complaint was lodged by a fishermen's group, which claimed that despite having paid the necessary amount in 2020, many fishermen had yet to receive their VHF radios. These radios are essential for safe and efficient communication at sea, and their delay has been a point of concern for local fishing communities.
Commission Chairperson, Alexander Jacob, directed the state Fisheries Director to resolve the issue promptly, as per an official statement released on Tuesday. The statement further highlighted a report from the Fisheries Director, revealing that out of the 432 beneficiaries who had made the payment, 245 had already received their VHF radios.
The remaining radios are expected to be distributed without further delay, ensuring that all eligible fishermen can benefit from this vital communication tool for their safety and operational needs.
