Kochi, May 14 – The Kerala Police have initiated an investigation after the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Jehovah’s Witnesses received a chilling threat from an international caller, warning of dire consequences if group members testify in the upcoming Kalamassery blast case.
According to the police, the anonymous call was made from a Malaysian at 9:57 pm on May 12. The caller allegedly issued a death threat against any member who would testify against the accused in the serial blasts case and threatened to plant bombs at all venues where the PRO holds religious services.
The PRO lodged a formal complaint at the Kalamassery police station, prompting the registration of a First Information Report (FIR). Authorities confirmed that a detailed probe is currently underway.
This threat has surfaced just as the trial is about to begin for the October 2023 serial blasts in Kalamassery, where a gathering of Jehovah’s Witnesses was targeted, resulting in the death of eight people and injuries to several others.
In a dramatic turn of events following the incident, Dominic Martin, allegedly an estranged member of the group, surrendered to police in Thrissur, confessing to the attack. He was subsequently taken into custody and remains the prime accused in the case.
Officials are treating the latest threat with seriousness given its implications for witness safety and public security during the high-profile trial.
