Malappuram, Kerala, Feb 26: P V Anvar, the state convener of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), has accused certain Left leaders of instigating party workers to attack him and members of the United Democratic Front (UDF). He issued a stern warning of retaliation, escalating political tensions in the region.

Anvar's remarks came after the UDF successfully wrested control of the Chungathara panchayat from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Tuesday. Despite his vocal support for the UDF, Anvar has not yet been officially inducted into the coalition.

In a video clip aired on television channels on Wednesday, Anvar alleged that Left leaders were supplying their workers with alcohol and drugs to incite violence against him and UDF activists. “If you do that, we will come to your homes and smash your heads. So better be mindful of your own health,” he warned.

He further accused the Left of historically suppressing opponents through violence. “But we will only hit at the head—those who send workers to attack us. That is all I have to say,” Anvar declared.

So far, the Left has not issued any response to these allegations.

Anvar, who previously represented Nilambur as an MLA with LDF support, resigned after joining the AITC, triggering a bypoll in the constituency. His fallout with the LDF stemmed from a direct confrontation with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Since then, he has pledged allegiance to the UDF and has ruled out contesting the upcoming Nilambur bypoll, instead extending his full support to the UDF candidate.

He claimed that the threats against him and his supporters stem from “Pinarayism,” referring to the political approach of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. As political tensions mount, all eyes remain on how the situation unfolds in the region.
