Thiruvananthapuram, May 14:
A woman advocate, Shyamily, has accused her senior lawyer, Beylin Das, of brutally assaulting her at his office in Vanchiyoor, sparking widespread condemnation and support from legal peers. The incident, reportedly on Tuesday, prompted the victim to seek strict legal and professional action to ensure Das is disqualified from practicing law in the future.

Speaking to reporters outside the Medical College Hospital, where she was receiving treatment, Shyamily alleged that Das had previously assaulted her while she was five months pregnant. She claimed the latest attack stemmed from a disagreement over internal office matters, during which Das turned violent.

“He gets angry very quickly if we question anything he says or does,” she said, adding that the assault this time left her with swelling and pain, though doctors confirmed there was no fracture or vision loss. “I’m in a lot of pain, but doctors can’t give me strong painkillers as I’m breastfeeding.”
Despite the trauma, Shyamily expressed satisfaction with the police probe and stated her belief that Das would soon be arrested. A case has been registered against him under non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with authorities actively searching for his whereabouts.

Controversy also surrounded the Vanchiyoor Bar Association, as Shyamily alleged that members were initially reluctant to allow the police to arrest Das from his chambers—a claim denied by the association. Das himself was unavailable for comment.

Shyamily said she had already filed an email complaint with the Bar Council of India and planned to submit a formal complaint to the Vanchiyoor court’s Bar Association. The association has reportedly suspended Das pending further action.
“I love this profession and have worked hard despite opposition from my family. I won’t allow him to continue practicing law,” she declared. “I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did.”

Several lawyers’ associations have supported the incident, publicly expressing solidarity with Shyamily as she pursues justice through legal and institutional channels.
