Thiruvananthapuram, March 3: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced a significant achievement for the Vizhinjam International Port, which has quickly emerged as a leader in India’s southern and eastern regions. In February, the port secured the top position among 15 ports in the region in terms of cargo handling, a testament to its rapid growth and development.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Vijayan shared, “Vizhinjam International Seaport continues its remarkable growth, ranking No.1 among 15 ports in India’s southern & eastern regions in February. Handling 78,833 TEUs from 40 vessels, it reaffirms Kerala’s rising stature in global maritime trade. A key step in our development journey!”
The port's exceptional progress is all the more notable considering its relatively short operational history. Since the trial run, which began only eight months ago, and the commencement of full commercial operations just three months ago, Vizhinjam has made substantial strides in becoming a key player in global maritime trade.
The Chief Minister emphasized the growing importance of the Vizhinjam port, stating that its expansion would significantly contribute to Kerala’s overall development. "The government is determined to transform Vizhinjam International Port into one of the world's finest ports," Vijayan added.
As Vizhinjam's prominence in the global maritime sector continues to rise, the port is poised to play an increasingly vital role in shaping Kerala’s economic landscape.
