Keshava Guha’s New Novel The Tiger’s Share Set to Release on April 8

New Delhi, April 1 — Acclaimed author Keshava Guha is all set to release his latest novel, The Tiger’s Share, on April 8. The upcoming title, described as deeply personal, modern, and witty, will be the debut release under Hachette India's new John Murray India imprint, a brand known for its rich 250-year literary legacy.

The novel, according to the publisher, is “both a family and a state-of-the-nation novel unlike anything else in contemporary Indian fiction.”

Guha, known for his debut Accidental Magic, expressed his excitement, stating,

“I am delighted that The Tiger’s Share will be the first novel to be published under the new John Murray India imprint. The 250-year legacy of John Murray includes, famously, Jane Austen, Lord Byron and On the Origin of Species... In this book, I have tried to do something perhaps old-fashioned but, I hope, of enduring value: to use the novel form as a way to take the temperature of society.”

A Tale of Family, Power, and Patriarchy in Modern Delhi

Set in contemporary Delhi, The Tiger’s Share follows the story of Tara, a successful lawyer, and her younger brother, who is her stark opposite. When their father retires, an announcement from him sends shockwaves through their family. Meanwhile, Tara’s friend Lila, seemingly living a perfect life, finds her world shaken by her father’s sudden death, sparking a fierce inheritance dispute with her brother.

As the narrative unfolds, Tara and Lila confront the complexities of family, ambition, and the deeply entrenched patriarchy of Delhi society.

Backed by Literary Giant Amitav Ghosh

Renowned author and Jnanpith awardee Amitav Ghosh praised the novel, calling it

“a stylish and engaging tragic-comedy of manners, set against the backdrop of a collapsing environment.”
He further lauded Guha as “an astute and insightful observer of contemporary India.”

Availability and Pricing

The Tiger’s Share will be available in bookstores and online starting April 8, priced at ₹699. With strong endorsements and a compelling premise, the novel is poised to make a significant mark in Indian literary fiction.
