Lucknow, Feb 3 (PTI) – Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck arrived in Lucknow on Monday as part of his visit to the Maha Kumbh, an official statement confirmed. The King is scheduled to visit the sacred event on Tuesday.

Upon his arrival at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, he was warmly received by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who welcomed him with a bouquet. The King was also greeted with vibrant cultural performances by local artists.

Following his arrival, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck proceeded to Raj Bhavan, where he was hosted by Governor Anandiben Patel. As a tribute to India's legacy, the King paid floral respects to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

During his stay at Raj Bhavan, he engaged in in-depth discussions with the Governor and the Chief Minister, focusing on strengthening India-Bhutan bilateral ties. The government emphasized that the King’s visit would serve as a significant step in fortifying the long-standing cultural and diplomatic relations between the two nations.

This visit follows the King and Queen of Bhutan’s earlier trips to Delhi in March and December 2024. Notably, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains the first leader to be awarded Bhutan’s highest civilian honor, the ‘Order of Druk Gyalpo.’

On Tuesday, the King will head to Maha Kumbh, where he is expected to take a ceremonial dip at the Triveni Sangam, marking the highlight of his visit.
