Kolkata, March 1: In a tragic incident, the bodies of a businessman and his 22-year-old daughter were found hanging inside his shop in Behala, South Kolkata, on Friday evening, police confirmed on Saturday.
The deceased, a resident of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district, had reportedly been battling severe mental distress for a prolonged period. His daughter, who was also found deceased, had been undergoing treatment for both mental and physical health issues.
According to the police, the businessman left home around 1 pm on Friday, informing his wife that he was taking their daughter to visit a doctor. Alarmed by their prolonged absence, his wife became anxious and began searching for them.
Late in the evening, both bodies were discovered hanging inside the man's shop, which deals in kitchen chimneys and water purifiers, located in Behala.
An officer from Parnashree Police Station stated, "Initial investigations indicate that the businessman may have taken his daughter’s life before committing suicide due to severe depression. A detailed probe is ongoing."
