Kolkata, Feb 26: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has issued a show-cause notice to an official of its education department for unilaterally altering the holiday schedule for Hindi medium schools. The changes, which included the cancellation of Vishwakarma Puja as a holiday and an extension of the Eid ul Fitr holiday from one day to two, were later withdrawn.

Following the directive from the KMC's municipal commissioner, the chief manager of the education department retracted the memorandum, attributing the issue to “inadvertent typographical mistakes” in a corrigendum. The initial notice, dated February 25, had been signed under the chief manager's name.

In an official statement, the municipal commissioner emphasized that the holiday list was published without approval from the competent KMC authority. The administration has taken the matter seriously, and necessary disciplinary actions are being initiated against the responsible officer.

The statement further clarified that the memorandum has been canceled, and a revised holiday list will be issued per the state government’s norms. The upcoming directive will ensure adherence to the official holiday schedule.
