Assistant Sub-Inspector Accused of Masterminding Heist in Entally​

Kolkata, May 14 – In a major development, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Kolkata Police was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly orchestrating a robbery involving Rs 2.66 crore. The crime targeted two employees of a private foreign exchange firm who were travelling in a taxi through the Entally area of the city.

According to police officials, the robbery occurred on May 5 at around 11:45 AM. The two employees were transporting the large sum from S N Banerjee Road to deposit it at a state-run bank in the Park Circus area. While en route, two unidentified individuals forced the taxi to stop near Kamardanga, boarded the vehicle, and fled with the cash.

A police officer confirmed, “The ASI had planned the entire robbery. We have arrested him,” but did not disclose further details regarding his role or motive.

Following a formal complaint from the victimised firm, the Detective Department of Kolkata Police launched an investigation. So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. Among those in custody is an employee of the foreign exchange firm, suggesting the involvement of insiders in the crime.

The probe into the high-profile case continues, as police work to uncover more details and trace the stolen funds.
