Kolkata, May 10 — In a significant crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police arrested four individuals and recovered a cache of weapons after intercepting their vehicle near the city early Saturday morning.Based on specific intelligence about the movement of suspected arms smugglers in the Narayanpur area, STF officers laid a trap and successfully apprehended the suspects as they passed through the locality.
According to an STF official, preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were traveling from Bihar and were headed to a location in West Bengal. A search of their vehicle led to the recovery of one 7 mm pistol, two pipe guns, twelve 7.65 mm bullets, and two 8 mm bullets. All the seized items are reportedly manufactured in Munger, a district in Bihar notorious for illegal arms production.
"The accused were en route to a house in Beraberi village in New Town’s Narayanpur area," the officer stated. "We are currently interrogating the suspects to trace the origin of the weapons and determine if they are linked to a broader interstate arms smuggling network."
The investigation is ongoing as authorities aim to locate the manufacturing source and identify any larger criminal syndicate that may be involved.
This operation underscores the Kolkata Police's ongoing efforts to clamp down on the illegal arms trade and enhance public safety.
