Accused from Murshidabad was en route to Chennai; firearms and ammunition recovered
Kolkata, April 5 — In a significant crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested a wanted arms dealer from Howrah railway station on Friday. The arrest led to the recovery of a cache of firearms and live ammunition.The accused, a resident of Murshidabad district, was apprehended while attempting to flee to Chennai. Acting on a tip-off, STF officials intercepted him at the busy railway hub and recovered one 7.65 mm improvised pistol fitted with a magazine, along with 10 rounds of 7.65 mm live cartridges.
According to STF officials, the man is a key suspect in an arms trafficking case currently under investigation at the STF Police Station. Additional seizures included four semi-finished improvised firearms and four pistol barrels, raising serious concerns about the scale and reach of the illegal operation.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody until April 17 for further interrogation and investigation.
The operation marks another success for the STF in its ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illegal weapons across West Bengal.
