Wellington (New Zealand), February 15 Guntas Sandhu overcame strong winds to card a 77, five over par, and finish tied for 20th place in the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) tournament here.

Guntas finished with a four-day total of four over par, making her the best Indian competitor.

Her teammate, Ananyaa Sood (82), also struggled and finished with a total of 14 over par, placing her in 42nd position.

Korean golfer, Yunseo Yang, successfully defended against her compatriot, Soomin Oh, to become the first Korean winner of the WAAP.

Yang, who skillfully handled the windy conditions, closed with a three-under-par 69, the best round of the day, which saw only three sub-par scores.

With a total score of 272, 16 under par, Yang finished eight strokes ahead of Oh, matching the WAAP's record-breaking margin set by Japan's Yuka Yasuda in 2019.

She is also the first player to win the championship while holding the lead in all four rounds.

With this victory, Yang has earned exemptions into three major championships in 2026 – the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes, The Amundi Evian Championship in France, and the Chevron Championship in the United States.
