Kota, February 3 (PTI) – In a dramatic turn of events, a 24-year-old man, initially believed to have shot himself after being surrounded by police, has been revealed to be alive and remains on the run, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The fugitive, identified as Rudresh alias RDX, was presumed dead after allegedly shooting himself in the face on Sunday. He and an accomplice had been hiding in a house in the Naya Nohara area when police cornered them. However, the deceased was later identified as another notorious criminal, Pritam Goswami alias TT, by his family at the mortuary, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lokendra Paliwal said.
The shocking revelation came when Rudresh himself reportedly informed a friend early Monday that he was still alive. The friend, in turn, alerted Rudresh’s family, raising alarms about the mistaken identity.
During the raid, police recovered three weapons from the house.
Rudresh and three of his associates were already wanted in connection with a shooting incident that took place on January 26. In that case, the gang, traveling in a car, had demanded cigarettes from a pan shop owner. When the shopkeeper refused, one of the men fired a shot from inside the vehicle, injuring the shop owner's brother, Pavan Singh. Singh is currently undergoing treatment at New Medical College Hospital in Kota.
One of Rudresh’s accomplices, Rajneesh Poter, has already been arrested, but Rudresh remains at large.
