Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau Praises “Prudence and Restraint” by Both Nations

New York/Washington, May 10 – The United States on Saturday hailed the decision by India and Pakistan to agree to a full and immediate ceasefire, calling it a powerful example of successful diplomacy and leadership.

US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau commended the leadership in New Delhi and Islamabad for “choosing prudence and restraint” amid a dangerously escalating conflict, stating he was “proud” of the US diplomatic team’s role in defusing the situation.

“I’ve been privileged to witness Secretary Rubio in recent days tirelessly working the phones with the leaders of both India and Pakistan to prevent a dangerous escalation,” Landau posted on X, referring to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s behind-the-scenes efforts.

He emphasized that President Donald Trump and Vice President J D Vance had made it clear to the entire administration that promoting global peace remains their foremost priority. “Whether it’s India and Pakistan, Russia and Ukraine, Israel and its neighbours, DR Congo and Rwanda, or Azerbaijan and Armenia, our calling is to prevent or stop war,” Landau said.

Diplomacy “At Work”

Landau lauded the outcome as a testament to diplomacy’s quiet power. “This is diplomacy at work. Picking up the phone, listening, and making choices in the pursuit of peace. Echo the strong praise for the statesmanship of India and Pakistan’s leaders,” he said, accompanying his post with the US, Indian, and Pakistani flags along with a peace emoji.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Declares Trump the “President of Peace”

The House Committee on Foreign Affairs echoed this sentiment, applauding the Trump administration’s diplomatic achievement. In a statement on X, the committee declared, “President Trump is the PRESIDENT of PEACE!” and highlighted the significance of his mediation efforts.

Citing a Truth Social post from President Trump, the committee said, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”

The announcement follows a dramatic series of cross-border attacks that saw both India and Pakistan strike each other’s military installations, pushing the region to the brink of further conflict.

As tensions de-escalate, global leaders have begun recognizing the ceasefire as a vital step toward sustained regional stability.
