Imphal, February 26 – The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights (KOHUR) has strongly criticized Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla for his recent meeting with leaders of Arambai Tenggol, a Meitei outfit that the Kuki group describes as an armed extremist organization responsible for widespread violence in the state.
Governor Bhalla met with Arambai Tenggol leaders Korounganba Khuman and Robin Mangang on Tuesday, reportedly seeking their cooperation in restoring peace in the conflict-ridden state. Discussions also included potential surrender of weapons under specific terms and conditions, according to officials.
In a statement, KOHUR condemned the meeting, asserting that those responsible for ethnic persecution and destabilization in Manipur should not be recognized as political stakeholders. "The Kuki-Zo community will not remain silent while those responsible for their persecution are given legitimacy," the statement read.
Following the meeting, Arambai Tenggol’s PRO Robin Mangang confirmed that the governor had urged the group to surrender arms. "We have some terms and conditions, and once those are fulfilled, we will surrender the weapons," he stated.
The development has further heightened tensions in Manipur, where ethnic conflicts have led to prolonged instability.
