February 14, Srinagar: The Indian Army held a six-day free ski training program for local youth at TeePee Chowkibal in Kupwara from February 9 to February 14, marking its first such initiative in the area.
Around 400 young participants took part in the program, highlighting the growing interest in winter sports across the district. The training aimed to identify and nurture sporting talent while encouraging constructive engagement through adventure-based activities in the snow-covered terrain.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn skiing under professional guidance. Local residents also welcomed the initiative, describing it as a positive step towards youth development and community outreach.
Officials said the program is expected to strengthen ties between the Army and local communities, while contributing to the promotion of winter tourism and a sports culture in the region.
