DM Mahendra Singh Tanwar Flags Off Procession; Tributes Paid to Lord Buddha on ‘Trividh Pavani’
Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, May 12 – A grand celebration took place in Kushinagar on Monday to mark the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Gautam Buddha — collectively known as ‘Trividh Pavani’.Kushinagar District Magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar inaugurated the day's events by flagging off a Shobha Yatra(religious procession) with the Panchsheel Dhamma flag, symbolising the five Buddhist principles. The vibrant procession highlighted the rich spiritual heritage of the region, drawing large crowds and spreading a message of peace.
Speaking on the occasion, DM Tanwar emphasised the timeless relevance of Lord Buddha’s teachings. “The principles and life events of Lord Buddha guide us towards peace and wisdom,” he said, encouraging everyone to imbibe his values.
Renowned Buddhist monk Gyaneshwar Bhante enlightened the gathering about the significance of Vaishakh Purnima, sharing that all three pivotal moments of Buddha's life — his birth in 563 BC in Lumbini, his enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, and his Mahaparinirvana in 483 BC at Kushinagar — occurred on this very day.
“Buddha Purnima is the most sacred day to remember Lord Gautam Buddha,” Bhante remarked. “It is a rare spiritual alignment that all three monumental events in his life took place on the same full moon day.”
The celebration underscored Kushinagar’s prominence as a vital Buddhist pilgrimage site and offered a moment of reflection and reverence for followers across the globe.
