Latur, February 9 Jayshree Sonkamble and Snehal Utge of the Congress were unopposed elected as mayor and deputy mayor of the Latur Municipal Corporation on Monday, after the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi withdrew its candidates. The VBA withdrew from the race following an agreement with the Congress, under which the Prakash Ambedkar-led outfit would receive the post of deputy mayor after two and a half years. Of the 70 electoral wards in the city, the Congress won 43, followed by the BJP (22) and the VBA, which secured four seats. One seat was won by the Nationalist Congress Party. The election process took place at the Yashwantrao Chavan Hall of the Municipal Corporation under the supervision of district collector Varsha Thakur Ghuge.
