Gold Jewellery Worth Rs 5 Lakh Recovered; 73 Cases Registered in Liquor Raid​

Latur, May 12 — Latur Police arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly snatching gold jewellery from female passengers on crowded buses across the district, recovering 51.5 grams of gold ornaments valued at around Rs 5 lakh, officials confirmed on Monday.

The woman was apprehended near bus stand no. 2 on Sunday after police received a tip-off. According to authorities, her modus operandi involved targeting women in congested buses and swiftly snatching their jewellery before escaping in the crowd. Police said she is already facing three pending cases related to gold theft at different police stations in the region.

Major Operation Targets Illegal Liquor Trade​

In a separate operation, Latur Police launched a coordinated crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, raiding hidden distilleries and unauthorized vendors operating in remote and high-risk areas.

During the operation, authorities registered 73 cases and seized unlicensed liquor stock worth Rs 1.71 lakh. Thousands of litres of country-made liquor and raw materials were destroyed on-site to prevent future misuse.

The intensive raid was carried out by a team comprising 23 officers and 105 police personnel, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Somay Munde and Additional SP Dr Ajay Deore.

The twin operations reflect the district police’s heightened vigilance and commitment to curbing both petty and organized crime in the region.
