New Delhi, May 17:
Several areas across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced light rain on Saturday afternoon, offering a brief reprieve from the sweltering heat.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded approximately 1 mm of rainfall till 3 pm. Localities such as Central Delhi, Maharani Bagh, Mayur Vihar, Ghaziabad, and Noida witnessed light showers following a cloudy start to the day.

The minimum temperature was measured at 24.3 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees below the seasonal average, as per IMD data. The relative humidity stood at 55 percent at 8:30 am.

Earlier in the day, the weather office had forecasted a thunderstorm with rainfall. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 42 degrees Celsius, indicating the short-lived nature of the relief.

Air Quality in ‘Moderate’ Range

Air quality levels across Delhi remained in the "moderate" category on Saturday morning. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 183 at 9 am.
The CPCB classifies AQI levels as follows:
  • 0–50: Good
  • 51–100: Satisfactory
  • 101–200: Moderate
  • 201–300: Poor
  • 301–400: Very Poor
  • 401–500: Severe
While the rain may help settle dust and temporarily improve air quality, officials caution that rising temperatures could lead to further deterioration in the coming days.
