Lok Sabha Proceedings Adjourned Amid Protests by Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party Members

Slogans and Placards Disrupt Zero Hour in Parliament

Lok Sabha proceedings were abruptly adjourned until 2 pm on Tuesday following intense protests and sloganeering by members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Samajwadi Party (SP).

The disruption began as several SP members displayed placards while raising slogans, quickly joined by TMC member Kalyan Banerjee. The exact issues leading to the protests remained unclear amid the uproar.

Speaker Om Birla Appeals for Order

Speaker Om Birla repeatedly urged protesting Opposition members gathered in the Well of the House to return to their seats. Directly addressing SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, the Speaker assured him an opportunity to raise his concerns once the scheduled papers were laid during the Zero Hour.

Birla also reminded members that parliamentary rules explicitly prohibit sloganeering and displaying placards within the House.

Parliament Session Adjourned Within Minutes

Despite the Speaker’s appeals, the opposition continued their protests unabated. Consequently, the proceedings were adjourned less than five minutes after the Zero Hour commenced at noon.

The House is scheduled to reconvene at 2 pm.
