Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reaffirmed the government's commitment to rejuvenating the Yamuna river during his one-day visit to Mathura on Monday. Birla, accompanied by his family, participated in traditional rituals at the iconic Kesi Ghat in Vrindavan, performing the Yamuna Puja and aarti amid the spiritual chanting of hymns by local seers.
Addressing concerns regarding the pollution affecting the sacred river, Birla assured locals and pilgrims, "A massive campaign to clean the Yamuna river is already underway. Yamuna will be clean again."
During his visit, Om Birla engaged warmly with residents at Kesi Ghat, seeking to deepen his understanding of the area's rich religious and cultural heritage. Expressing reverence towards the Yamuna, he added, "I have come to this holy land to worship Yamuna maiyya (mother). May the rivers Ganga and Yamuna remain clean and continue to bless everyone. Their uninterrupted flow provides us with renewed energy."
Birla also visited the revered Banke Bihari Temple and sought blessings from spiritual leaders at an ashram in Rukmani Vihar, further emphasizing his personal connection and devotion to the sacred Brij region.
In a heartfelt message shared later on social media platform X in Hindi, Birla stated, "During my one-day stay in the sacred land of Lord Shri Krishna, the Brij region, I worshipped Yamuna ji at Kesi Ghat in Vrindavan. I prayed to Yamuna maiyya for the health and prosperity of our countrymen."
This renewed commitment underscores ongoing efforts to restore the Yamuna's ecological health, crucial for preserving India's religious and cultural traditions.
