Swift Action by Cyber Cell Prevents Public Panic, Says DCP Rupinder Singh
Ludhiana, May 10 — The Ludhiana Commissionerate Police on Saturday detained two individuals for allegedly circulating fake videos on social media platforms, which led to unwarranted public panic, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rupinder Singh.The incident came to light after the cyber cell of the Ludhiana Police received complaints regarding suspicious videos being widely shared online. Promptly responding to the alerts, the cyber cell launched an investigation and apprehended the two suspects involved in spreading the false content.
Investigation Underway into Suspects’ Online Activities
DCP Singh stated that a detailed analysis of the suspects’ social media profiles is currently underway to determine whether they are involved in any other violations or coordinated efforts to spread misinformation.He issued a stern warning to the public against creating, sharing, or endorsing misleading videos and content, stressing that such actions severely disrupt public order and hinder the administration’s security measures.
“Spreading misinformation is a serious offence. Those found guilty will face strict legal consequences under our zero-tolerance policy toward social media misuse,” said Singh.
Police Appeal for Responsible Social Media Usage
In his statement, Singh called on citizens to act responsibly online and to verify the credibility of any information before sharing it. He advised people to rely solely on official and trusted sources to avoid fueling unnecessary fear or unrest.He also praised the cybercrime unit and the social media monitoring cell of the Ludhiana Police for their proactive role in tracking and combating digital misinformation.
