Madhya Pradesh: 25-Year-Old Student Falls to Death Near Jogi Bhadak Waterfall

Dhar, Feb 2 (PTI) – A young student tragically lost her life after falling into a deep gorge while descending the stairs near a popular waterfall in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district on Sunday, police confirmed.

The incident took place at Jogi Bhadak waterfall, located under the Dhal panchayat, approximately 60 km from the district headquarters.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Indrajit Bakalwar, the victim, identified as Anshika Shukla (25), was part of a group of students from Devi Ahilya University, Indore, who had visited the scenic spot for a picnic. While climbing down the stairs near the waterfall, she lost her balance and plunged into a 500-foot-deep ditch.

Shukla, a resident of Anuppur district, succumbed to severe head injuries and died on the spot, officials said.

Upon receiving the alert, local authorities and Dhamnod police launched a rescue operation, successfully retrieving her body. It was later sent to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at tourist locations, especially those near waterfalls and treacherous terrains.
