Madhya Pradesh: Man Demands Half of Father’s Dead Body Amid Dispute Over Last Rites, Police Intervene

Tikamgarh (MP), Feb 3 (PTI) – In a shocking and bizarre incident in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh district, a man allegedly demanded that his deceased father’s body be cut in half amid a heated dispute with his brother over performing the last rites. The dramatic episode unfolded in Lidhorataal village, about 45 km from the district headquarters, prompting police intervention, an official reported on Monday.

According to Jatara police station in-charge Arvind Singh Dangi, the conflict arose following the death of Dhyani Singh Ghosh (84), who had been battling a prolonged illness. Ghosh had been living with his younger son Deshraj, who had been taking care of him. Upon his demise on Sunday, his elder son Kishan, who resides outside the village, returned home after receiving the news.

However, the solemn moment quickly turned chaotic when Kishan insisted on performing the last rites, despite Deshraj’s claims that it was their father's dying wish for him to carry out the cremation. The argument escalated, and Kishan, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, made an astonishing demand – that the body be split in half and shared between the brothers.

Disturbed by the commotion, villagers alerted the police. Authorities arrived swiftly and managed to pacify Kishan, who eventually left the scene. Following the intervention, Deshraj proceeded with the cremation as per their father’s wishes.

The bizarre dispute has drawn widespread attention, underscoring the extreme nature of family conflicts that can arise even during moments of grief.
