Mahakumbh Nagar, Feb 3 (PTI): Religious leaders and saints participating in the 'Amrit Snan' at Triveni Sangam on the occasion of Basant Panchami have strongly cautioned political leaders against exploiting Sanatan Dharma for political gains. They also lauded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for ensuring smooth arrangements at the Maha Kumbh.

The event took a serious tone as seers condemned criticism surrounding the tragic January 29 stampede that resulted in 30 deaths and injuries to 60 pilgrims during the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya. While authorities attributed the tragedy to overcrowding, opposition leaders questioned the preparedness of the administration in handling the massive influx of devotees.

Seers Rebuke Political Leaders for Misusing Sanatan Dharma

In a statement issued by the UP government on Monday, Mahant Santosh Das Sattua Baba Maharaj of Panch Nirvani Ani Akhara criticized politicians, particularly targeting Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

"You have never followed or respected Sanatan Dharma. Do not try to benefit from it now," he stated. He also accused Yadav’s party of historically targeting Sanatanis, warning, "We are Sanatanis, and we will uproot those who attempt to harm our values."

Unity and Spiritual Strength of India Highlighted

Junapithadheeshwar Swami Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj emphasized the spiritual unity at the Kumbh, remarking,
"India is a land of peace and prosperity, while the world struggles with fear and unrest. The world looks to India for wisdom through spirituality, yoga, and Ayurveda."

He further praised CM Yogi Adityanath for overseeing exceptional arrangements, ensuring a smooth experience for pilgrims.

Basant Panchami Celebrated with Devotion and Order

Religious leader Chinmayanand Bapu also commended the administration for flawless management of the event.
"Basant Panchami holds great significance, especially for students. Those who take a holy dip today are bound to succeed. The atmosphere here is peaceful and orderly," he stated.

Despite concerns following the January 29 stampede, the Maha Kumbh continued with fervor, with saints reinforcing the spiritual and cultural importance of the event.
