Ghaziabad, Feb 2 (PTI) – Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Nand Kishore Gujjar has called for a high-level investigation into the tragic Maha Kumbh stampede in Prayagraj, alleging that state officials operated under the influence of the Samajwadi Party (SP). His remarks come in the wake of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's statement hinting at a conspiracy to undermine Sanatan Dharma and disrupt the religious event.
The stampede on January 29 claimed at least 30 lives and left 60 others injured, raising serious concerns over crowd management and administrative handling.
"MLAs, who hold a higher position than officers, were made to stand in queues while bureaucrats’ wives received VIP protocol," he said in a statement to PTI.
A video of Gujjar’s statement has since gone viral on social media platform X, in which he described the deaths not as mere accidents but as "murders."
"I urge CM Yogi Adityanath to register an FIR and jail the Chief Secretary under the NSA," Gujjar said.
Meanwhile, CM Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex gratia of ₹25 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
The inquiry is expected to shed light on potential administrative lapses and determine whether any foul play was involved in one of the most significant religious gatherings in the country.
