
Hyderabad, February 16 Tension gripped the town of Thorrur in the Mahabubabad district on Monday as workers from the BRS and the ruling Congress were engaged in scuffles during the election of the municipal chairman.
Neither party secured a clear majority in Thorrur in the February 11 municipal elections.
Out of the 16 wards, BRS won nine, while Congress secured seven.
However, with the addition of an MLA and MP as ex-officio members of the municipal body, Congress's strength increased to nine.
The outcome is likely to be decided by a draw of lots.
Following initial slogans, workers from BRS and Congress were involved in scuffles, and the police brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, the elections for Mayors and Deputy Mayors and municipal chairpersons were underway across the state on Monday.
