Maharashtra Excise Department Seizes IMFL Worth ₹29.50 Lakh in Thane

Thane, February 28: The Maharashtra excise department intercepted a tempo transporting Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth approximately ₹29.50 lakh in Thane district, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to State Excise Inspector Pravin Tambe, a special team acted on a tip-off and maintained surveillance on the Kalyan-Bhiwandi road near Temghar. Around 5:30 AM, the officials spotted a tempo and stopped it for inspection. Upon checking, they discovered IMFL of various brands, valued at ₹29.45 lakh, allegedly being smuggled for sale in neighboring Goa.

Authorities have registered an offence against the tempo driver, who is currently under interrogation. Further investigations are underway to trace the source and intended recipients of the consignment.

The Maharashtra excise department has been intensifying its crackdown on illegal liquor transportation to curb unauthorized trade and ensure compliance with state regulations.
