Vehicle Code MH-59 Assigned to New Transport Office

Mumbai, May 10 – In a move aimed at decentralising transport services and easing access for citizens, the Maharashtra government has sanctioned the establishment of a new Deputy Regional Transport Office (Dy RTO) at Jat town in Sangli district.

According to an official government resolution (GR) issued on Friday, the newly approved RTO will carry the vehicle registration code MH-59. With this addition, Maharashtra now boasts a total of 35 Deputy RTOs and 24 RTOs across the state.

The state transport commissioner has been directed to initiate the appointment of officers to handle key functions such as licensing, vehicle registration, and road tax collection at the new Dy RTO. Additionally, efforts will be made to secure land for the office premises on lease, the resolution stated.

Located approximately 100–120 kilometres from Sangli city, Jat has long required a local transport office. This new facility is expected to save residents from having to travel long distances to the district headquarters for RTO-related tasks.

The establishment of the Dy RTO in Jat is seen as a significant step towards improving administrative convenience and transport governance in rural and semi-urban parts of the state.
