Ajit Pawar assures strict action after Pune hospital faces heat over tragic death of Tanisha Bhise

Mumbai, April 4 — Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty following the tragic death of a pregnant woman, allegedly due to denial of admission at a Pune hospital over a Rs 10 lakh deposit demand.

The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, occurred at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune on March 28. The deceased, Tanisha Bhise, was the wife of a personal assistant to BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe. She later delivered twin girls at another hospital but died shortly after on March 29.

State Government Orders High-Level Probe

Pawar, who is also the guardian minister of Pune district, said a committee comprising expert doctors has been formed to probe the matter. He added that he had spoken with the district collector to ensure that the investigation is conducted transparently and without delay.

"The hospital has submitted its statement. All aspects will be examined, and appropriate action will be taken," Pawar stated.
"The government understands the anger of the protesters. The guilty will not be spared, but citizens must remain calm and support the legal process."

Health Minister Confirms Departmental Inquiry

Earlier in the day, State Health Minister Prakash Abitkar confirmed that a senior health department official will lead the inquiry. The probe aims to clarify whether there was medical negligence or a breach of patient rights.

Political Protest Erupts Outside Hospital

The alleged incident has triggered strong protests from opposition parties, including the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP (SP). Demonstrators gathered outside Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, even throwing coins at a hospital staffer as a symbolic protest.

To maintain order, police have been deployed in large numbers outside the hospital premises.

BJP Legislator Claims Ignored Pleas

BJP MLA Amit Gorkhe alleged on Thursday that the hospital refused admission to Bhise despite an assurance of an immediate Rs 3 lakh payment. He also claimed that even a call from Mantralaya, the state secretariat, failed to sway the hospital authorities.

Hospital Denies Allegations

In response, the hospital administration has denied all allegations, stating that the patient's family provided "misleading information" and that no admission was denied due to financial reasons.

The incident has now become a flashpoint in the ongoing debate over healthcare accessibility and hospital protocols in Maharashtra. The state government is expected to release preliminary findings of the inquiry soon.
