Palghar, Maharashtra – In a significant crackdown on illegal tobacco trade, Palghar police seized banned gutka and tobacco products valued at approximately Rs 6.32 lakh from a tempo on the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near Charoti toll naka, Dahanu area.
Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, police established surveillance at Ghol village near Charoti toll naka on Saturday. Upon identifying a suspicious tempo passing through, authorities immediately intercepted the vehicle.
According to an official from Kasa police station, detailed inspection of the tempo revealed gutka and tobacco products of various prohibited brands amounting to a total market value of Rs 6,32,900.
The tempo involved in transporting these banned products was impounded by the police. Additionally, a criminal case has been filed against the driver and the helper under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as violations of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations.
The crackdown highlights Palghar police's continuing efforts to curb the illegal sale and transportation of banned tobacco products in the region.
