Jalna, Feb 2 (PTI) – A 17-year-old boy from Maharashtra’s Jalna district, who claimed he was shot by three unidentified men at a toll plaza on January 31, was allegedly lying to cover up his involvement in testing a country-made revolver, police revealed on Sunday.
The teenager was rushed to a hospital in neighboring Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with a bullet wound on his chest, prompting an investigation by Chandanjhira police. Initially, he alleged that three motorcycle-borne assailants had attacked him and stolen ₹95,000. However, inconsistencies in his statement led officers to dig deeper.
According to Inspector Sushil Chavan, the probe uncovered that the boy and a 19-year-old accomplice had illegally purchased a country-made revolver and were testing it in Chandanjhira. The accident occurred when the teenager attempted to turn on his mobile phone’s torch in the darkness. The gun accidentally discharged, and the bullet passed through the phone before striking his chest.
To evade legal trouble, the duo fabricated the robbery story to mislead authorities. The 19-year-old accomplice has since been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
