Nashik, February 27 – Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant announced that a two-day Kusumagraj Mahotsav will be held annually in Shirwade-Vani village, the birthplace of renowned poet and playwright VV Shirwadkar, famously known as Kusumagraj. The announcement was made during the celebration of Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din, observed on Kusumagraj’s birth anniversary.
At the event, Samant highlighted that Shirwade-Vani has now been recognized as ‘Kavitanche Gaon’ (Village of Poetry). The village’s first hall has been inaugurated and is now operational, with plans to complete the entire Kavitanche Gaon project in the next three to four months. “Every student should visit this place to immerse themselves in poetry,” he stated, emphasizing the site's significance in promoting Marathi literature.
The minister also revealed that the Maharashtra government will establish a unique Chair on the war tactics of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Guerrilla Warfare at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. A ‘Marathi Chair for Kusumagraj’ will also be set up to further research and literary studies on the iconic poet.
The government has planned an elaborate Kavi Vinda Karandikar Sahitya Bhushan Award distribution ceremony to honor Marathi literature, with the next edition scheduled at Gateway of India. The State Marathi Bhasha Department will soon release Abhangs of Sant Tukaram Maharaj in e-book format, making them accessible to a broader audience.
Prominent attendees at the event included State School Education Minister Dada Bhuse and Rajya Marathi Bhasha Vikas Sanstha Director Dr. Shyamkant Deore.
This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to promoting and preserving Marathi literature and culture across the state.
