Lucknow, Feb 26: Shiva temples across Uttar Pradesh witnessed an overwhelming influx of devotees on Wednesday as people gathered to offer prayers on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. From Varanasi to Lucknow, the state echoed with ‘Har Har Mahadev’ chants as worshippers paid homage to Lord Shiva.
In Varanasi, a grand early morning procession featuring naga sadhus and akharas made its way to the revered Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The temple, adorned with dazzling lights and vibrant floral decorations since Tuesday evening, became the focal point of celebrations. The Mahamandaleshwar of the akharas led the royal chariot, while ascetics carrying tridents, maces, and swords performed the sacred jalabhishek ritual.
CEO of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, assured devotees that extensive arrangements, including barricading and water facilities, were in place. The temple remained open through the night to accommodate the massive turnout.
In Prayagraj, lakhs of devotees took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, marking the final day of the ongoing Maha Kumbh.
In Aligarh, thousands of kanwariyas and Shiva devotees thronged the Siddhpeeth Khereshwar Dham Mahadev Temple, where they performed jalabhishek to the resonating chants of ‘Om Namah Shivay’. Authorities ensured a smooth and hassle-free experience for visitors.
Similar fervor was seen in Raebareli, where long queues of devotees were seen at various Shiva temples, continuously chanting ‘Har Har Mahadev’.
In Kanpur, the Baba Anandeshwar Temple, often referred to as the “Choti Kashi of Kanpur,” saw an enormous footfall. With its deep-rooted historical connections to the Mahabharata era, the temple remained a focal point of Mahashivratri celebrations as devotees performed rituals with Ganga water and bel leaves.
The state capital Lucknow also witnessed thousands of devotees forming long lines outside Shiva temples, reinforcing the spiritual grandeur of the occasion.
With elaborate administrative arrangements ensuring smooth conduct, Mahashivratri was celebrated with great devotion and fervor across Uttar Pradesh.
