Jammu, Feb 3 (PTI): In a significant breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police, in collaboration with the Crime Branch of Delhi Police, have arrested five individuals, including the main accused in the murder of Sumit Jandiyal, the alleged kingpin of the Gataro gang. Jandiyal was shot dead on January 21 in Jammu city by members of a rival group.
The police launched a massive operation to track down the killers, leading to the arrest of the main suspect, Harash, along with his associates Arun, Ajay, Abihay, and Raj. The accused were apprehended in a joint operation near ISBT, New Delhi, while attempting to escape to Nepal, officials confirmed.
"Harash is the primary accused in the murder, along with Arun and Ajay, who were directly involved in the shooting," an officer stated, adding that further investigation is underway after securing their remand.
The brutal attack took place on January 21, when three assailants intercepted an SUV at Jewel Chowk in Jammu and fired four rounds at Jandiyal. Despite being rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Following the attack, the gunmen hijacked a two-wheeler at gunpoint and fled the scene.
The arrest of these individuals marks a significant step in the crackdown on gang-related violence in Jammu. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the killing and any potential links to other criminal activities.
