Container Truck Causes Multiple Accidents in Mainpuri; Driver Arrested
Two women lost their lives, and five others were injured in two separate road accidents caused by the same container truck in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday. The incidents occurred on Friday evening when the truck driver, identified as Simranpreet Singh, wrongfully entered a restricted "no-entry" zone in Mainpuri.Superintendent of Police (SP) of Mainpuri, Ganesh Prasad Saha, reported that Singh was transporting husk from Kanpur to Rajpur, Punjab. The trouble began when police officers stationed at Karhal Crossing attempted to stop the vehicle. In an attempt to evade the police, Singh accelerated the truck and ran over two women pedestrians.
Fatal Incident at Karhal Crossing
Tara Devi (40) tragically died on the spot after being crushed under the vehicle. Her daughter-in-law and granddaughter were seriously injured and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.Following this incident, local police initiated a high-speed chase to apprehend the driver.
Another Fatal Accident in Kuraoli
The situation intensified when the Inspector at Kuraoli Police Station, after receiving an urgent wireless message, tried intercepting the speeding truck. However, the truck driver evaded the interception and subsequently struck Divya (28), who was traveling home on a motorcycle with her husband. Divya was killed on the spot, and her husband sustained severe injuries.Two additional individuals were critically injured during these incidents. They have been admitted to the district hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Driver Arrested, Truck Seized
Police intensified their search operation and successfully arrested Simranpreet Singh late Friday night in Etah district. The container truck involved in these tragic events has also been seized.Bodies of the deceased victims have been sent for post-mortem examinations, SP Saha informed. He further mentioned that the driver even attempted to hit the Inspector of Kuraoli Police Station during the chase, although the officer narrowly escaped injury.
Police investigations are ongoing to ascertain further details.
