Kolkata, Feb 27: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has set an ambitious goal for the 2026 state assembly elections, aiming to secure more than 215 out of 294 seats while ensuring a sharp decline in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) tally.

Addressing a party meeting on Thursday, Banerjee expressed confidence in her party’s prospects, stating, “We will win more than 215 seats in the next Bengal assembly polls and make sure the BJP’s numbers decline further.”

TMC Aims for a Bigger Victory, Targets BJP’s Deposits

Taking a swipe at the BJP’s past election slogans, Banerjee highlighted the party’s failure to meet its ambitious claims.

“In the 2021 assembly polls, BJP leaders said ‘200 paar’ but were defeated. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they claimed ‘400 paar’ but failed to even secure a majority. Abhishek (Banerjee) is absolutely right—we will achieve a two-thirds majority, but you must ensure an even bigger victory. This time, BJP nominees must lose their deposits,” she asserted.

Abhishek Banerjee Calls for a Decisive Win

Echoing Mamata Banerjee’s stance, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee urged party workers to secure a landslide victory.

“The fight to secure Bengal’s future has begun. We must ensure the TMC’s victory and make Mamata Banerjee the chief minister for the fourth consecutive time. Our goal is a two-thirds majority in the 2026 elections,” he declared.

TMC’s Strategy for 2026

In the 2021 assembly elections, the TMC secured 213 seats, comfortably retaining power, while the BJP won 77 seats. With the 2026 elections on the horizon, the ruling party is intensifying efforts to consolidate its voter base and counter the BJP’s challenge in the state.

As the political landscape in West Bengal heats up, all eyes will be on how the battle unfolds in the run-up to the crucial 2026 assembly elections.
